Get up and move around! It’s good to take a walk or a lap around the office to recharge and re-energize for the rest of the day! Scientifically, it’s beneficial because when we move around we get more oxygen to our brains and this helps us focus better! So put your mouse, phone, pens, or what have you down and take a chance to enjoy this beautiful spring day (or the lovely fluorescence of your office space!)!

Having a rough day? Maybe you over slept or had a quiz in a class you weren’t expecting. These hiccups can really put a damper on our day, if we let them. We don’t have to let it though. We don’t have to start our day at a 2 and then by the time we go to bed register at a -50 (we’ve all done it, these are days when we think nothing will go right). If we choose to not be held down by the negative annoyances in our lives and find the good things we can turn our whole day around. Take a break for 2 minutes (It won’t even take that long) and think of 5 things that went right or are going well. Repeat them and add to the list!

Also, smile! Studies show that just the physical act of turning your lips into a smile can make you feel better!

Breathing deeply sends oxygen all over the body, including the brain. This increase in oxygen can improve mental performance! So, close your eyes for a moment and just breathe!

Love this video, it is amazing. If you have 20 minutes I would highly recommend watching it. The video discusses a wide range of human emotions such as fear and shame in the context of vulnerability. The speaker is amazing and the talking points are amazing.

I hope this Thursday finds you in a good mood and in not too chilly weather!

Here’s my list for this week:

  • I am thankful for my sorority sisters. We’ve had recruitment this week and it’s been stressful but so a lot of fun! It’s a great chance to form stronger friendships with the amazing women I get to call my sisters!
  • I am thankful for my courses this semester. I am taking Cancer biology and it seems absolutely fascinating. Cancer research has been an interest of mine since taking cell bio my junior year so I am very excited!
  • I am thankful for facetime. I get homesick a lot (I am a homebody!) and it’s nice to be able to see my friends and family and chat with them that way!
  • I am thankful for my coffeepot. The poor thing has become my laboratory. I can now make coffee, tea, and ramen in it.
  • I am thankful for my health. It’s something I can easily glaze over daily but I truly am thankful that I can wake up healthy!

That’s my list for this week, what are you thankful for today?

That’s my thankful list for this week, what’s on YOUR list?

I am so thankful for breakthroughs in science and technology. Everyday things that before we could only dream of come into real life, into things we can physically grasp with our hands.

As someone who has had loved one’s lives be touched by cancer, I think this is honestly a miracle. My mother is a breast cancer survivor and one of my childhood best friends lost his battle with brain cancer my freshman year. This new break though in cancer treatment is truly fascinating. Treating patients with epigenetics instead of chemotherapy is beneficial because unlike chemo it doesn’t kill the cells.

I feel truly blessed and thankful to live in an age when thanks to technology we could see the end of cancer or at least, great strides in ending this vicious disease. For that I am thankful.
