Keeping track of everything that goes right keeps our focus on our ultimate goal. Chin up and keep on!
Having a rough day? Maybe you over slept or had a quiz in a class you weren’t expecting. These hiccups can really put a damper on our day, if we let them. We don’t have to let it though. We don’t have to start our day at a 2 and then by the time we go to bed register at a -50 (we’ve all done it, these are days when we think nothing will go right). If we choose to not be held down by the negative annoyances in our lives and find the good things we can turn our whole day around. Take a break for 2 minutes (It won’t even take that long) and think of 5 things that went right or are going well. Repeat them and add to the list!
Also, smile! Studies show that just the physical act of turning your lips into a smile can make you feel better!
No matter what happens, look for the positives. :)
When bad things happen to us or loved ones it can be very hard to deal with and make sense of. In these times of trouble we might want to run to the dark places in our mind and heart and shut the good things out in our life. Momentarily, this might make us feel better, we can get brief comfort from feeling as if the world isn’t such a good place.
However, to begin to heal from negative experiences we must continue to stay in the light. Continue to be positive and always, always look for the good around you. They can be simple things like sunshine or a smile. Find those good things and hold onto them. They are your anchor to moving past the negative into the positive. Don’t be afraid to try to find and look for happiness and positivity.
We grow stronger not by staying in the negative, but by having courage to look for and hold on to the positive.
Having a bad day? A bad week? We are halfway through the week and that means if you answered yes to either of these questions, it can only get better!
Take time to make a few lists of what you have done well and of as many “everyday” positives you can think of. These can be as simple as: whipped cream on hot chocolate, your favorite song coming on in traffic, or a kind smile. The more you focus on all the positives, big or small, the better your week will be.
We’re halfway through:change what you can, be positive for what you have.
This is one of the best TED Talks I have seen in awhile. It focuses on positive psychology and how it can be used in everyday life and work/school systems. I love it, the guy is a genius.
As the old saying goes, misery loves company. Negative people bring those around them down with them until everyone is feeling a lot less positive. Don’t be brought down by the negative words and actions of others. It may be tempting to join into it but the satisfaction of being negative is short lived compared to how long the satisfaction of being positive is. Next time you feel the pull of negativity pulling you down, remove yourself and focus on the positives!
